The making behind a permanent installation

Showboat

For the Museum of Broadway’s permanent collection, we had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with American artist and dancer Rachel Marks, whose practice explores the deep connection between nature and humanity—often through immersive installations crafted from reclaimed books and paper. Her vision for this project was no exception: a reimagining of a scene from the legendary musical Showboat, brought to life using original pages from the novel itself.

Set within a beautifully curated, interactive space, the installation combines physical elements—like costumes from the original production—with augmented reality and educational storytelling. The result is an experience that honors Broadway’s rich legacy while offering fresh ways to engage with its history.

Role - I worked closely with Rachel to conceptualize and implement creative strategies throughout the making process, helping to shape both the artistic and technical direction of the installation. From design development to overcoming production challenges, it was a collaborative effort to bring this meaningful work to life.
